Don’t Quit! There Will Be New Beginnings

Life is great. I love it. I am so happy. That’s how I feel today, right now. But life in all it’s fantastic brilliance sometimes leaves us struggling, wondering if we are ever going to come through alive. There are times for all of us when we feel it’s just too much. We’re burdened with troubles at the company, family problems keep growing bigger, nobody seems to understand, finances are not enough to cover the bills. In theory we know giving up is not the solution, but we get tempted anyway. We may be convinced that positive thinking is the solution, but we can’t seem to keep the negative ones from dominating our mind.

There are days when we feel we have reached the limits, and even gone way past the limits of how much we can take. We feel like it’s the end. We just want to crawl into our cocoon and disappear for a while. We desperately wish something would happen to ease our struggle.

But no matter how difficult life is, taking some easy shortcut to ease the pain may not be the best solution. Listen to this very thought provoking story.

A man found a cocoon of a butterfly and one day as he watched a small opening appeared. He sat there and watched the butterfly for hours as it struggled to squeeze its body through the tiny hole in the cocoon. Then the butterfly stopped, as if it couldn’t go further.

The man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bits of cocoon. The butterfly emerged easily but it was not as it should be it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings.

The man continued to watch it, expecting that any minute the wings would enlarge and expand enough to support the body. Neither happened! The butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around, it was never able to fly.

What the man in his kindness and haste did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required by the butterfly to get through the opening was natures way of forcing the fluid from the swollen body into its wings so that the wings could unfold and enable the butterfly for flight.

You see, the struggles at home that seem too much to bear, the difficulties at the company that you can’t find a solution to, the problems you are facing that feel like they are killing you, they may be just what you need to bring you to the next level, just what will give you the new beginning you need and bring you a completely new life.

Lao Tzu, a philosopher and poet of ancient China puts it like this. “What the caterpillar calls the end, the rest of the world calls a butterfly.” Don’t ever forget that. No matter how dark or dismal it may be, No matter how impossible success or victory may seem, hold on, it is not the end. There is life at the other end of that dark tunnel, amazing life, new life.
