I hope you have an average day!
I never thought I would ever write something like that, but I did. Isn’t it better to shoot for great, excellent, fabulous, or superb, rather than average? Isn’t it better to aim for the highest and best rather that settle for ordinary? Before you answer that question, let’s look at what an average day might look like.
What would an average day at work be like? You would not have any big insurmountable problems, you’d get along well with most of your colleagues, and maybe make some progress on the project you are working on.
What would an average golf game be like? You would have fun with your friends, hit the ball in the bunker twice, and score just over 100, again. Then you would smile and remind yourself that you pay a lot less per shot than the ones who score in the 80s.
What would average health be like? You would maybe have some pain here and there, and sometimes have a hard time sleeping at night, but for the most part you would be doing OK, and be able to do most things you like doing.
What would an average weekend be like? You would maybe sleep a bit longer in the morning, go shopping, possibly see a movie and have a meal out with family or friends.
What would an average Friday night out be like? You would meet up with some of your friends after work and head off to the pub, sit and chat over a few beers, laughing over some jokes, and head home just after midnight.
If you have a family, what would an average day with your family be like? Maybe you would spend a few quality minutes with your kids, and have a little time alone with your partner after dinner.
You see, if every day were average, life would be pretty good, it would actually be fantastic. By trying to make every day so great and perfect, it is easy to get frustrated when things don’t work out as we had hoped. Sometimes we need to give ourselves a break and not aim so high that we lose sight of and forget to enjoy and appreciate all the great things that happen on an average day. We need to realize that if we constantly have average days like the ones above, combined that makes for a great, excellent, fabulous, and superb life.
Don’t keep your focus only on the stars. You may miss the diamonds sparkling in the rough.
Have an average day! Enjoy!
