There have been many times in my life that I felt like I had reached my limit, that I had come as far as I could go. It felt frustrating and I seemed to stagnate. I was stuck, and I just could not find a way to make the progress I wanted and needed to make. The same thing happens in companies, departments, organizations, and relationships as well. Maybe it even happened to you. Why, you may wonder does this always happen? Is it permanent? Of course not! Is there a solution? Yes there is!
Have you ever driven a car with a manual transmission? You start in first gear, gently let the clutch out, press the accelerator and get up speed. But after a while, you reach a limit. The car stops accelerating, and if you want to go any faster, you need to shift to second gear. It’s as if the car gets a new lease on life. After a while you again reach new limits, and in order to go any faster you go through the same procedure, you shift gears again.
That’s what we have to do in life as well. When we reach our limits, first we have to disconnect from the restrictions, from the past, from the way we used to do things. We have to shift gears. Then we need to connect to the future, to new possibilities and greater opportunities. We have to take off the lid that keeps us down, replace the doubts that weaken our faith with the belief that we are made to succeed. We need to get rid of limitations we have placed on ourselves of what we can and can’t accomplish. Only then can we widen our horizons, see the multitude of opportunities that surround us, and find ways to be our best and do our best.
Is it time for you to shift gears. Is it time to put your life in overdrive. Is it time to pull out all the stops and go full speed ahead. I believe it is. Yeah! What a ride!
