Did you get fooled today? Or did you try to trick someone else to believe some outrageous lie? After all it’s the 1st of April, April fool’s day.
My daughter told me that in their class they decided to play a trick on their math teacher. When he entered the class everyone pretended to have forgotten everything he had been trying so hard to teach them over the last few months. They had forgotten the formulas, they didn’t remember the test that was due, and the more the teacher asked, the more frustrated he got. It seemed nobody in the class had been paying attention to what he had been telling them. They finally let him know it was all a joke. At least it was fun for the students.
Trying to fool someone or get them to believe a lie happens everywhere on this day, in schools, in businesses, in newspapers, on the internet, and among friends. For the most part it is quite innocent and funny.
But there is another sort of joke or lie that happens every day of the year, all over the world. I’m sure you have been tricked by this one many times, just like I have. Millions of “smart” people who would never fall for a regular April fool’s lie, live their whole lives built on a lie. They base important decisions on this lie, they make their goals based on this lie, and they even build their dreams the same way. Millions of people suffer every day because they were so gullible and naïve that they believed this lie.
What is this lie? Simply put, it’s this: “I can’t.” We limit ourselves because we limit what we think we can do. The reasons may vary. Some people think they are too poor, some are too skinny, others are too fat, or maybe they feel they are not smart enough. Some think they come from the wrong family or the wrong country or culture, other believe they don’t have enough education. The reasons are many, but the result is always the same. They end up believing the lie that says: “I can’t.”
That millions of people fall for a silly April fool’s joke can be funny. That millions build their entire lives on the assumption that they can’t is a tragedy. Don’t be fooled. You can do anything you want to do. You have within yourself the resources to accomplish anything you set your heart to do. When you make plans for your life, set goals for your business, or make your dreams for your future, get rid of limitations, remove all obstacles, think BIG and believe. Have a fantastic day.
