There are times in life when everything seems to be going wrong. Any number of things can be causing problems. We are behind on our deadlines, our finances take a plunge, our health take a turn for the worse, our position in the company is in question, our family life is not what it should be.
No matter how difficult the situation may be, we cannot allow our troubles to control our attitude, and our attitude to govern our thinking. We cannot let the difficulties get us so discouraged that we can’t see the solutions and the breakthroughs that lie ahead. We have to look past the present no matter how bleak it may seem. Remember that no matter how dark the night, the sun always rises again. It doesn’t matter how long and cold the winter has been, it will always be followed by spring and summer.
It’s a matter of attitude. If you greet your wife in the morning and tell her she looks like the end of a long winter, she might not respond so well, but if instead you tell her she looks like the breath of spring, chances are she’ll be happy to do anything you ask. In the same way, if you tell yourself that your present difficult situation is just the tip of the iceberg, you’ll get so discouraged you’ll be tempted to give up. Instead you can look at the iceberg as something that helps you navigate safely by warning you of danger underneath, and lead you to a wonderful and exciting journey ahead. Or turn it around and see the little hope you have as the tip of the iceberg, and realize that there is many more positive possibilities than meets the eye.
Don’t get caught in the worries of the moment. Instead, let a positive attitude lead you towards the possibilities of tomorrow. Don’t get pushed down by your problems, but get lifted up by your dreams.
