Every day we can read news about VIPs around the world. When someone famous does something, good or bad, newspapers will write about it the next day, you can watch it on TV a few hours later, and it will be all over the internet in minutes.
I found out that VIPs are reading my blog, Havard Lillethun’s blog. That makes me proud. At first I thought of keeping it a secret, but no, it’s too important. I am so excited and I have decided to share the news with all my readers. I’m not talking about some ordinary CEO, or even an ambassador or famous movie star. The VIP who is reading my blog is – you!
That’s right. You are a VIP, a very important person. You are unique. There is only one like you in the whole universe. You are valuable just because you are you. We all are. Sometimes it is easy to forget this. It is so easy to judge our importance by success, by position or title, by fame, by wealth, or by beauty. It is so easy for us to value ourselves, as well as others, based on work we do and how others look at us.
When I was a teen, I was mobbed in school almost daily. I had no self worth, and I was not valued at all by any of my class mates. I was judging my value by how others saw me or treated me. It’s the same on the other end of the spectrum too. We look up to famous or rich people and put a value on them based on how well known they are or how much money they make. Either way it’s wrong.
We need to understand that the real value we have is something that has nothing to do with any external factors. It is not something anyone can ever take away from us. It has nothing to do with fame or money. We are valuable simply because of who we are, as we are. We are valuable because of the unlimited potential we have inside.
Wherever you are right now, whatever your position in life, whether you are feeling great or miserable, remember this: You are valuable, just the way you are. You are fantastic. You are unique. You are a VIP.
