Think twice before you speak, because your words and influence will plant the seed of either success or failure in the mind of another. – Napoleon Hill.
When I read this quote, I see two different messages, both very important.
The first is the most obvious. There is power in our words. The words we speak either lift up or pull down, they bless or they curse, they give life or they take life, they help bring about success or failure. That gives each of us a lot of responsibility, to be careful what we say. But most importantly it gives us a great opportunity to be a blessing, to encourage, to influence for good, and to make a difference in the lives of those we meet. Please be careful what you say, and remember that the power of what we say doesn’t actually start with our words. The words we speak come from the thoughts we think. That’s where it all originates. That is why it is so very important to first of all guard our thoughts, and then make sure what we say is right.
The second message I see is this. Others have already been speaking and planting seeds of failure or success in us. What do we do with these positive and negative thoughts planted in our minds? Do we take responsibility and filter out the ones with the seed of failure, and take to heart those that foster success. Or do we just accept them all? Do we feel it is just, fair and honest to give them both the same time and attention? More and more I realize how much negative influence there is around me every day, how easy it is to get influenced by it, and how important it is to filter and choose what to give my attention and intention to. I don’t need to hear about why something can’t be done. I don’t need other people’s limiting beliefs or excuses.
Thankfully I have many great people around me who share their vision, their faith, their passion, and their goals with me. This is the seed in my mind that I choose to nurture, water, and grow. Their words have been and continue to be a great and positive influence in my life. These dear friends and mentors have been and great inspiration, have been instrumental in helping me become what I am and bring about my success. Thank you. It is my hope and prayer that I can, in the same way, be a blessing and add value to others, and be an influence for good in the lives of those I meet.
