In our eagerness to be happy and successful, it is good to sometimes take a step back and look at our lives more long term. “What is it that I really want? What does success actually mean to me?” There are many times that what may seem like the right thing to do at the moment will not be what’s right a bit down the road.
It is not always easy to know what the best decision is in terms of business or success. If it was, businesses would hardly ever fail. We don’t always know what will bring the best benefits to us, our company, or our shareholders. But when it comes to questions of integrity or honesty it is usually very easy to know what is right. It may not be easy to do, but when the question or situation first comes up, we usually know right away what is true, what is honest, what is the right. I have found that in the long term, if we ever have to compromise on the integrity issues to help the business issues, it won’t be beneficial in the long term.
If we want our lives, businesses, and relationships to grow and last, we have to build them on a strong foundation. Integrity, truth and honesty are some of the best building blocks you can find when you are laying that foundation. It may not always be the most popular or flashy bricks, but it makes life, work, relationships and family life so much deeper, more meaningful, as well as more fun when we put integrity first. Other building materials may look great. They may even help you get your building up faster. But if your foundation is weak, If you are not using the best bricks in your foundation, sooner or later it will haunt you. In the long run, it is always easier, and cheaper, to build right, rather than to trying to fix it later.
Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value. – Albert Einstein.
